Fire for Effect
First I’d like to thank all of you who’ve written in and let me know just how far I’ve fallen behind in keeping the TheTanker.com website updated…nothing like tough love from the fans to get Farmer off of his ass. But it’s been a busy 2004 firepower lovers, as you’ll see.
IRON TIGERS debuted on the Barnes & Noble bestseller list at #41 a couple of weeks ago, higher than TIN SOLDIERS reached at its zenith. Even better news…this week it moved into the #25 position. I want to thank all of you who waited patiently for the book’s publication and hope it has lived up to your expectations. Feel free to drop by Amazon.com and write a quick review to let me and other readers know what you thought of it; but be kind, I have alimony payments and don’t want you to scare off too many potential buyers. Here’s a link for those who want to write a few lines:
For the past two months I’ve been splitting time between my old home in Tampa and my new home in North Carolina. I have to send out a big thank you and salute to my friends at U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. I’ve never served with a better group of professionals. In early September I start work at Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg. As a native North Carolinian it’s exciting to be “home” after 18 years of military service. It’s a first for me. As most of you know, I’m a tanker (geez, read the name of the website). Well, they don’t drop M1s – they did try a few times and it wasn’t pretty – thus I’ve never had the pleasure of serving at the home of the 82nd Airborne. Should be a great gig and I can’t wait to get started.
Book 3 is coming along. Tentatively titled TOMMY GUN, it’s another shameless Patrick Dillon vehicle. Seriously, it was good to hear the reader response on a couple of the new characters introduced in TIGERS, Rolf Krieger and Luke Dodd. Both are back hot and heavy in TOMMY GUN. Phantom may even make an appearance, time will tell.
Speaking of Phantom, I was curious to see what the reader reaction would be to a Jack Russell Terrier as a main character. Apparently there are a lot of dog lovers out there amidst the faithful. Phantom’s real-life alter-ego, a malcontent Jack named Scout, is really getting a case of the big head over the whole thing. You can send him cards/doggy treats here: Scout Farmer, c/o Care Animal Hospital, 511 E. Bloomingdale Ave, Brandon, FL 33511.
Many of you have written me asking how to get a book signed. If you send a copy to the address below, I’ll turn it around to you. Please ensure you let me know who it’s for and a little about them – ex-military (if so, what service), wife is a stripper, etc. – so that we can add a personal touch. Here’s the address:
Michael Farmer
Again, thanks much for all of the e-mails, keep ‘em coming. Until we meet on the high ground…
Scouts out!
Mike

WAR DOGS A novel of armored warfare in the 21st Century
Another tour de armored force by bestselling author
Michael Farmer. The Franks Combat System, or “Tommy Gun”,
has been designed by the U.S. Army to be twice as light as
the Abrams tank it will soon replace, and at the same time
more lethal and survivable. But on the eve of the Tommy
fielding, the prototypes have been stolen and spirited
from the United States, along with the project’s military
lead: Major Patrick Dillon. And now President Jonathan
Drake has laid down the law…he wants his tanks, and Patrick
Dillon, back. And Drake doesn’t care how his military and
intelligence agencies accomplish the task.
From Iraq’s Sunni Triangle, to the American Southwest,
and into the pine-covered forests of Fort Bragg, North
Carolina, WAR DOGS showcases what Farmer knows best -
America’s fighting men and women.
