Fire for Effect…Quick Hit News
The TIN SOLDIERS sequel is in the final stages of editing now and is due for release in August, 2004. The powers that be at Signet decided that a title change was needed – sure, I liked THE BREACH, but what do I know; I just write the books – so IRON TIGERS it is. TIGERS is available for pre-order now at Amazon.com.
Just returned from another Middle East jaunt last month, this time with stays in both Afghanistan and Baghdad. All of you can be proud of the job our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines are doing in both countries. Despite hostile fire (and there’s no such thing as friendly fire), poor living conditions, and extended periods away from their loved ones, these young Americans are kicking ass with a heart – i.e., if it’s a bad guy that needs to go bye-bye, he’s toast, but twenty minutes later you’ll find these troops providing first-aid to a child caught in the crossfire of an ambush in downtown Baghdad. Please keep them in your hearts and prayers. They’re doing the job because they believe in it, not for the extra $150 a month hazardous duty pay.
At work now on book three of the Patrick Dillon sagas. More to follow as the story develops.
On a personal note, found out last week that I’ll be leaving U.S. Central Command this summer. While I hate to leave what has been one of my more interesting assignments, at the same time the new job sounds intriguing as well. Mrs. Farmer’s little boy is off to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to work at Special Operations Command. It’s a move back to my home state and old friends. What more could a man want?
Scouts out!

WAR DOGS A novel of armored warfare in the 21st Century
Another tour de armored force by bestselling author
Michael Farmer. The Franks Combat System, or “Tommy Gun”,
has been designed by the U.S. Army to be twice as light as
the Abrams tank it will soon replace, and at the same time
more lethal and survivable. But on the eve of the Tommy
fielding, the prototypes have been stolen and spirited
from the United States, along with the project’s military
lead: Major Patrick Dillon. And now President Jonathan
Drake has laid down the law…he wants his tanks, and Patrick
Dillon, back. And Drake doesn’t care how his military and
intelligence agencies accomplish the task.
From Iraq’s Sunni Triangle, to the American Southwest,
and into the pine-covered forests of Fort Bragg, North
Carolina, WAR DOGS showcases what Farmer knows best -
America’s fighting men and women.
