TheTanker.Com Welcomes John Bertetto

Hugs and Kisses Spain

[Michael Farmer / TheTanker.Com / John Bertetto] After terrorists blew up a commuter train in Spain last month, the Conservative Spanish government was voted out of office and replaced with a more Socialist leadership. In an effort to remove themselves from the terrorist bombing shortlist, Spanish leaders stated that they were removing their support from the mission in Iraq, to be followed shortly thereafter by their troops. Last week, as Spanish police surrounded the home of suspected terrorist, a sizable bomb was detonated from within the home, killing two police officers.

Yep. Appeasement works.

The recent events in Spain shine a bright light in one dark corner of the global picture. These terrorist thugs have only one thing in their twisted minds – complete and total contempt for all of us. Turning a blind eye does nothing to alleviate the problem or re-focus it elsewhere – right, Mr. Clinton? When Ali fought George Foreman, he predicted his victory because Foreman telegraphed all his punches. The first bombing of the WTC, the bombing of the embassy in Kenya, the bombing of the embassy in Tanzania, the bombing of the USS Cole – I mean, how many times do the punches need to be telegraphed? When Ali stepped into the ring with Foreman, he read the punches. And then he dropped Foreman. When Clinton stepped into the ring with bin Laden, he read those punches. And then he dropped an aspirin factory.

The 9-11 Commission Hearings make one thing clear: Mr. Smith has left Washington. Sorry, Mr. Capra. Hey, it was a great movie. But the political landscape in D.C. is lunar in both its emptiness and its deformation. Integrity has taken a back seat to ambitious joyrides through our nation’s capital by our elected officials. Perhaps if those behind the panel gave a damn about doing rather than assessing blame, we could grind these terrorist maggots to pulp under our boots. And don’t give me any shit about how much they care. The only thing they care about is face time in front of the cameras and placing blame. Truth be told, the blame lies at everyone’s doorstep. We have all dropped the ball on this one, from our leaders to our neighbors. Terrorism has never been a secret. We’ve all turned a blind eye to it so long as it didn’t happen “over there”. Well “over there” is over here, and if anyone out there has forgotten that I’d like to smack you up side your head.

But none of this blame really helps us, does it? It doesn’t solve the problems we now face. Rome may not be burning, but it’s not for a lack of torches. We are in a war. It is not a time for half-measures. There can be no blinking. Our way of life, our safety, our children’s future, are a stake here. George Bush is doing. And he’s doing well.

Better than Spain.
