The writer was a young and upcoming novelist from Chicago, John Bertetto. In a few months he and his family, who have deep roots in the Marine Corps, have become close friends. I noticed over these past months that I can bring up a topic and ten minutes later I receive a two-page diatribe, very-well written and uhhhh – opinionated – back from John. Were they funny? Definitely. More, they were well thought out and written. And distinctly conservative.
